What is a Digital Nomad ?
A Digital Nomad is someone who can’t stand the open space anymore. Basically like the covid ! It’s not very funny sorry, but that crazy 2020 situation may have led you to re-think your professional situation. If you’re an employee, working from home for the first time must have been difficult cause you was alone and sometimes with children calling out for attention, but didn’t you feel better at the end of the day ? I’m sure you missed the coffee machine and the after-work with your chosen collegues more than this boring silence and useless meetings. Honestly, let me know if you worked more and better from your casa or not ? I know the answer…That’s why you’re reading my blog !
I’ve been working from my home office since 2007. I had a 3 year pause in a parisian office cause it was for a job i’ve always dreamed of : editor-in-chief/magazines founder. But my enthousiasm and rapidity were like albatrosses in the aquarius full of dirty sharks called open-space. I ended up working again from home since 2013. And you know what ? The 2 hours daily time I lost in the subway has become extra-time for the projects i have. Sometimes, I don’t have the energy to work with efficiency. But I was feeling the same way at the office ! The difference is now, I can afford to watch YouTube videos or Instagram posts to gain power and inspiration instead. And that’s what I do when I’m not capable to work cause I feel sad or depressed. And I can do it from my bed !
The key is be organized, to draw a frame. I daily use Notes app on my iPhone to follow my 2 do list, and in my calendar I add tasks I have to do. If I don’t do that, I don’t know where to start, and I end up wasting time.
Inspiration is the key. I wake up at 7 or 8 every day, and I smile cause I’m not obliged to dress up like a pingouin to go to an office I don’t really love. I can start the day with a workout session, or directly join my mailbox after walking a little bit with my lovely dog Snap. Then, I work til lunch, and I easily work til 5 or 6. But If I need it, I stop and I go out. Cause a free brain is what really makes me do big things in my job.
I travel a lot, cause I feel like living my life to the fullest when I do. Right now, I’m in the Fernando 3 hotel terrace in Sevilla. Before that, I was in Mykonos. My life is so cool, really. Every 2 or 3 months, I go somewhere to gain energy.
Another thing is I like to work for different companies, and it was impossible in the open-space dedicated to only one enterprise. And that’s why my salary is three times higher than what it used to be. This way, I never feel pressure cause if I lose one brand, I still have others clients. I always try to work with at least 5 different clients, so I feel free to say fuck to one if it’s needed.
