The Social Media Manager is an exciting and crazy job: he is the editor-in-chief of 3 different medias: Print since he has to produce articles and photos, TV because video is the most attractive online content and Radio since podcasts are trending.
I don’t know exactly when the podcast became THE new rule to follow for brands. Maybe when Deezer and Spotify decided to broadcast them a couple of weeks ago. Before, it was a boring format for old people who missed they favorite boring radio show.
The truth is consumers/people only can listen to audio format when they’re biking, driving, running, or even waiting in the no- or poor-wifi-train. And when they are tired of their Netflix show and their 15 songs playlist, the podcast becomes an amazing lazy solution. Hands down.
The other truth is social medias like Facebook or Instagram, even B2B’s Twitter and Linkedin only display short content: one sentence, hashtags, photos and 10 second stories. With a 20 to 40 minute podcast, «real» full content is back. And since a book is too long to read, and a YouTube show won’t load in the subway (plus you have to hold it with your hand…), the podcast is, again, the lazy but deep solution to learn something.
Also, don’t forget that people are lonely in these big cities. And to hear human voices is a medicine. They will laugh, cry, get angry if you share the right audio show.
This podcast can become a video with http://headliner.app. You can even turn it into an article with this amazing online tool. And your Community Manager can promote it with 15 seconds trailers + .png quotes. Only one 30 minute podcast produced each month can help you to create dozens of posts for social media, including the full episode on YouTube.
To record it, even an iPhone is ok. It’s more about the story and the mood you create. Give a name (an hashtag) to your show. Then, use https://audio-cutter.com/fr/ or a software like Garage Band, Logic, Cubase to edit and export your audio file in .wav. And then, use http://anchor.fm to broadcast it everywhere for free.
Mine is shot in my Mini car and I also film it for YouTube and Linkedin. It’s called #Hashtags and I talk in french about social media marketing.
As for now, it’s not even on Spotify, Deezer and Apple. Only on Linkedin, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter and I count more than 20k streams for the first month. Quite cool for a zero euros investment. I only give tips there and I invite guests to call for attention.
